Dudley Kennett Jan Kennett Riders at the 2008 Rick Hansen Ride

join jan, dudley, and the Copper Cayuse Outfitters staff at the ranch for our part of the Rick Hansen Wheels In Motion fundraiser! We'll be offering guided trail rides, wagon rides, a western BBQ buffet with campfire, a door prize, a 50-50 draw, and live entertainment provided by Three-Legged Ginger. It's all in support of the Canada-wide Wheels In Motion event, and 100% of all donations go to the Rick Hansen Foundation to support spinal injury research and improve the quality of life of those with spinal cord injuries. You can download your pledge sheet (pdf) and print it out or, if you live locally, you can get one from the Visitor's Centre, the Scotiabank, the New Community Centre, or the Animal Barn. Don't forget to ask family and friends for pledges! Tax receipts for donations over $10 will be mailed to supporters.

bring your pledge sheet and collected donations into the ranch(directions) and register with us beginning at 10:00 AM to get your free guided trail ride as part of the wheel/walk/ride event (we keep the horses separate because sometimes horses and bicycles are not a good mix). Whether you register with us and ride or go with the main event at the Old Community Centre, you'll get a door prize ticket for the draw at 6:00 PM to win a lovely prize donated by Cowboy's Choice (but you have to be at the ranch during the draw to win!). The BBQ dinner will be ongoing through the evening; dinner admission is strictly by donation. We'll also have volunteers selling tickets for the 50-50 draw. All materials and time are donated, there are no expenses for us to cover, and so every penny of your donations go to the Rick Hansen Foundation!

if you're coming for the trail ride, please call 604.932.0748 or 604.894.6789 to pre-book your ride. Space may be limited, and the afternoon rides are usually the busiest. Please note that all riders are required to sign a liability waiver.

can't make it to the event itself, but still want to support the cause? You can donate to the Copper Cayuse Outfitters team directly at the Wheels In Motion website.

the kennetts host this section of the Wheels In Motion event for personal reasons. In 1991, Dudley Kennett sustained a spinal cord injury in a logging accident in the upper Pemberton Valley. Despite being rushed to Vancouver for treatment, doctors told him he would never walk again. With great determination, Mr. Kennett set about proving them wrong, and after many months of physical therapy, he was able to recover enough mobility to stand and walk although his recovery was not total. Keenly aware of the contributions the Rick Hansen Foundation has made to researching therapies and cures for injuries such as Dudley's, the Kennetts have supported the Wheels In Motion event since it's inception. In tribute to the role that theraputic horse riding played in Mr. Kennett's recovery, Jan and Dudley have made horse riding part of the annual event for everyone.
