2026 Best Things To Do This Fall in the Sea to Sky
As summer fades and the leaves begin to turn, Pemberton really shines for a down-season getaway. The days are crisp and clear, the forests begin to turn amber, and the valley’s landscapes become even more spectacular with a dusting of snow on the peaks.
Fall is one of the best times of year to explore the Sea to Sky - and Pemberton, being a small farming town, really is a highlight in the region for harvest season. While crowds are never an issue anyway, there’s an added calmness and peace in the air; the temperatures are ideal for getting outside, and there’s something special about experiencing the way a farming community gathers and celebrates before the land hibernates.
With some of the big attractions closing for the season in Whistler, head 30 minutes up the road and find out why Pemberton is a great place to visit before Winter.
Here are some of the best things to do in Pemberton.
Ride Through the Fall Colours on Horseback
Riders can explore the Pemberton farmland and surrounding mountains on guided horseback adventures, with rides designed for everyone from first-time riders to experienced equestrians.
The one- and two-hour valley rides depart from the Pemberton Meadows ranch and wind through wooded trails, open fields and the beautiful farm fields of the Pemberton Meadows. As autumn arrives, the changing colours add another layer of beauty to the already incredible mountain scenery, with views toward Mount Currie along the way. The contrast of amber foliage against the glacial blue creek is just stunning.
For a bigger adventure, head into the Birkenhead Mountains for a half- or full-day mountain ride, or Expedition Camp. These backcountry adventures take you well beyond the valley, following steep alpine trails through forests and rugged mountain terrain. The full-day Birkenhead ride travels into the sub-alpine wilderness surrounding Birkenhead Lake, with spectacular views of Fowl River Falls and Sun God Mountain, while the Camps take you up to historic gold mines high up in the alpine.
Copper Cayuse Outfitters’ 2026 riding season runs until October 11, making early fall one of the last opportunities of the year to saddle up and explore Pemberton on horseback. While a lot of adventures end for the Fall in Whistler, we don’t!
Explore Pemberton’s Scenic Trails
Fall is fantastic hiking and biking, and Pemberton has no shortage of trails to explore. From easy valley walks to more challenging mountain adventures, you can spend a crisp morning exploring before lunch, or a big day in the alpine discovering new sights.
For an easy outing, explore one of the multi-use trails around One Mile Lake or head out to Nairn Falls to see the Green River rushing through the canyon. If you’re looking for something more, Joffre Lakes is one of the most popular hikes in the region - and for good reason. The three turquoise lakes are breathtaking. Please be aware that the trails are closed from September 8-30 for the First Nations Reconnection Periods, but will be open for late Fall hikes in October and you will need a day pass until October 25th.
Remember that mountain conditions can change quickly in the fall, particularly at higher elevations. Check trail conditions before heading out and be prepared for cooler temperatures and potential snowfall.
Take in the Fall Scenery on a Scenic Drive
One of the best things about fall in Pemberton is that you don’t have to venture far to find incredible scenery.
Take a drive through the Pemberton Meadows and watch the landscape change from green to gold, with farms and fields framed by towering Coast Mountains. Continue north toward Lillooet for a deeper taste of the region’s backcountry landscapes and the dramatic views.
Keep your camera close. Between the autumn colours, mountain peaks and wide-open valley views, there are plenty of just go for a drive and take in the beauty.
Pick the perfect pumpkin
Nothing says fall quite like wandering through a pumpkin patch with the mountains as your backdrop. Both North Arm Farm and The Beer Farmers open their pumpkin fields each autumn, offering plenty of pumpkins to choose from for the perfect Halloween jack-o'-lantern. It’s a classic Fall tradition with, in our opinion, the most beautiful backdrop in British Columbia.
Pumpkin Patch Dates:
North Arm Farm: September 26 – October 31
The Beer Farmers: October 1 – October 31
